The path to yoga for Dwayne began with ballet. Looking for a way of cross-training, he found yoga, and fell in love with the strength, flexibility and balance training. Mostly however, he became enamored of a practice in which the goal was the experience rather than the result.
Dwayne completed his teacher training in his birthplace of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he studied in the Vinyasa yoga style. He has a strong connection to Ashtanga Yoga, with its emphasis on fluid Ujjayi breathing throughout the practice, and to the creativity of Jivamukti yoga. He believes that the roots of yoga are acceptance, tolerance and compassion, and that a good practice is measured in joy.
Having danced professionally in companies in America, Dwayne took a position dancing for Deutsch-Oper-am-Rhein, and later danced in Theater Ulm. After retiring from the stage he relishes having a yoga practice, particularly because he tends to have more energy then he knows what to do with. He still deeply loves and is involved with ballet. He will be working towards his Masters in Dance Pedagogy, at the "Kölner Hochschule für Musik und Tanz", and writes regularly for Dance Europe Magazine, reviewing dance across Germany.
